Model Highlights
The performance/luxury-oriented Cadillac STS now comes in three different variants for 2007: V6, V8, and the high-performance STS-V, which joined the lineup last year. The V6 model comes with a 254-horsepower, 3.6L V6 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. The V8 model comes with a 320-horsepower Northstar V8 engine paired with a new six-speed automatic that enables quicker acceleration and quieter, more relaxed cruising. Both engines have variable valve timing for good response throughout the rev range, and both models come with either standard rear-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, for improved all-weather traction. The STS boasts several high-tech features designed to improve performance while maintaining great ride quality. The two-mode magnetic ride control uses electronic controls, combined with a magnetic fluid that can quickly become firm, to control ride at each wheel, while a four-channel StabiliTrak stability control system maintains control while allowing some measure of high-performance driving. Other more luxury-oriented features include an Easy Key keyless entry and ignition, adaptive remote start, adaptive cruise control (which can maintain a set following distance), an Intellibeam adaptive headlight system, a heated steering wheel, and a four-color head-up display. Also of note is the available 15-speaker Bose surround sound audio system with six-disc CD/DVD changer, eight-inch VGA touch-screen, navigation, voice recognition, and Bluetooth hands-free interface. The limited-production STS-V, along with the XLR-V coupe, are Cadillac's performance flagships. A 469-horsepower, 4.4L supercharged Northstar V8 powers the STS-V. The engines are hand assembled at a special build center, with each engine built by a single craftsman, much like at the respected Mercedes-Benz affiliate AMG. With the six-speed automatic transmission, the STS-V can accelerate to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds. Other standout equipment on the STS-V includes huge ducted Brembo brakes, larger front and rear stabilizer bars, and larger wheels. Inside, the STS-V has distinctive Olive Ash Burl wood trim and Kinetic aluminum accents.
